Bid shopping – The practice of listing one sub-contractor, getting the job, and then using another contractor to finish the job (and the second substitute contractor charged less than the first original contractor, thus the general contractor thereby increases its profits).
Lost profits – The amount the original subcontractor stood to make in making the original bid used by the general contractor. If successful, the subcontractor will be entitled to their lost profits due on the job.
Stop Notice - This is a notice filed that puts a claim in on the job at issue. Before the general contractor can get paid, the issues necessitating the stop notice generally speaking must be dealt with.
